Just weeks after oil began gushing into the Gulf Coast, Threespot embarked on a project for Conservation International that couldn’t have been more timely: a campaign to save our oceans, the cornerstones of our global climate, food supply, and economy.
Conservation International wanted to create a sense of stewardship over our oceans by emphasizing how important they are, and how vulnerable. As a result, Threespot concepted, designed, and developed the “It’s Our Ocean” campaign to make the oceans a more personal cause, with interactive that immerses users in videos of ocean habitats. Rollovers encourage users to explore the threats to each habitat, and to take action—whether by donating to save a square mile, or through everyday choices such as buying sustainable seafood. Donors’ names are featured and they can even look up the mile they saved, further personalizing the cause.
Although the miles are symbolic, the takeaway is clear—you can do something about it. The campaign has raised awareness at a critical time, with the devastation from the oil spill only making the call more urgent.
